The C&EI Railroad, founded in 1877, played a critical role connecting Chicago with southern Illinois, St. Louis, Mo., and Evansville, Ind., during the expansive growth of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Part of the C&EI's Evansville line was eventually sold to the Louisville and Nashville Railroad which ultimately became part of the modern CSX network. #ONECSX | CSX
