Andrew was the first child born to a reigning British monarch (male or female) since 1857. For the first 22 years of his life, until the birth of his nephew Prince William, Andrew was second in the line of succession to the British throne.
The couple divorced in 1996 but remain on cordial terms. Andrew stepped back from royal duties in 2019 following scrutiny over his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew, being a Greek name, was probably only a nickname or a translation of his real Hebrew name, which is not known. This name has been common (in various spellings) throughout the Christian world, and it became very popular in the Middle Ages.
