The Louvre is showing several Country Codes as United States 1201, 1202, 1203 and so on up to 1500. No way to know which will work. Tried so many times it kicked me out.

We have been to the Louvre several times in the last year -- in October and in April and May -- we got time slots a few days in advance and have never had any problem getting tickets.

I have visited the Louvre at least three times at without a guide. I found the information desk to be quite helpful. I noticed they had a map/brochure of the more popular works that many want to see. The Louvre definitely needs a remake, as the Pyramid can no longer handle the masses, as the main gateway (Rodin's Gates of Hell, comes to mind nowadays). I went in late April, and am thankful I did. Avoided the Mona Lisa, as it was never an attractive artwork for me (Da Vinci's best portrait painting, imho, is Lady with an Ermine, in Krakow.

Louvre timed entry ticket question - Rick Steves Travel Forum
The tickets section of the Louvre website may include its late-arrival policy. Assuming the Louvre is still selling tickets on site (I haven't checked), there will be separate lines for those with tickets and those needing to buy tickets.
